Export XML File — Reference

Reference · Advanced · Server Connect

Write a flat collection as repeated XML elements in a server file.

Write a flat collection as repeated XML elements in a server file.

  • A Server Connect action and a disposable server file or known test collection.

Write a flat collection as repeated XML elements in a server file.

Setting Meaning
NameNames the returned saved-file path.
PathThe complete application-relative destination filename. The parent directory must be available and writable.
Export DataA non-empty array of flat records. Each field becomes a child element of one item.
Root NameThe outer XML element name. Default export. Use a valid XML name.
Item NameThe element name for each record. Default item.
OverwriteAllows replacing the destination. With it off, Node.js fails for an existing exact path while PHP can choose a unique name.
OutputReturns the saved-file path in the action response when enabled. It does not download the file automatically.

Export [{“id”:1,“name”:“Notebook”}] with Root Name products and Item Name product. Parse the saved file and confirm a products root containing one product with id and name children.

This is a simple flat exporter, not a general nested XML serializer. Property names are used as element names and values are placed in CDATA; validate element names and content, including CDATA terminators, before relying on arbitrary input. Inspect the generated XML with the intended consumer.

Keep file parsing, data validation, database writes and file downloads explicit. A successful import/export step alone does not perform the rest of that workflow.

You can prepare the required file/data shape, configure the operation and inspect its returned file or records.
